Na celém ostrově se slavilo. Eufórie byla vidět na každém kroku. Vymýšleli se plány a strategie. V hlavním stanu se operátor snažil poslat zprávu o úspěchu. Vyťukával do rádia morseovkou písmeno po písmenku. Luke byl s Ashley ve stanu. Líbali se. Luke už plánoval, že až to všechno skončí, koupí si vilu a pak spolu možná založí rodinu. Vtom začalo hučení. Zesilovalo. Vyběhli ven. Luke se podíval na oblohu. Stovky ptáků letělo na jednu stranu. Utíkali. Ale před čím? V dálce se postupně objevilo 10 teček. Zvětšovali se. Po chvíli už bylo jasné, že to jsou letadla. Když byly nad ostrovem, vyskákali z nich vojáci. Desítky, ba stovky padáků se snášelo k zemi. Letadla pokračovala v letu. Když přistál první voják, seběhlo se k němu několik lidí z kolonie. Byli to Japonci. Jeden z nich uměl anglicky. Všude panovalo ticho. Všichni čekali, co jim sdělí. On se zvláštním přízvukem začal mluvit: "Našli jsme protilátku. Japonsko nyní vyhledává po světě spolubojovníky, kteří by pomohli, navrátit svět do té podoby, jakou měl od nepaměti. Naše protilátka by byla mnohem účinnější, kdybychom dokázali nakažené znehybnit. Uvítali bychom vaši spolupráci při výzkumu i v boji." Plukovník Carter se usmíval a přistoupil k vojákovi. Řekl mu: "Tak to jste na správné adrese. My totiž známe způsob, jak je zastavit." Ten den se začala chystat loď, která měla doplout do New Yorku. Začali se spřádat plány na rozhodující ''bitvy''.
